Dr. Edward Walker-Gallego (also known as Dr. Eddie Walker, “Walker” his father’s surname and “Gallego” (gai-ay-go) his mother’s maiden name) is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Walker grew up in San Diego, California and obtained his undergraduate degree from California Baptist University where he received the Biology Award and was in Who’s Who Among America’s College Students. Dr. Walker then spent four years working, prior to finding his calling as an orthopaedic surgeon, in various medical and academic settings that included positions as a pathology assistant, a clinical services coordinator at a hematopathology reference lab, clinical research assistant, and adjunct lab professor.

Dr. Walker attended medical school at the University of Illinois-Chicago. While in medical school he received multiple scholarships, was Urban Health student of the year, and completed his Officer Basic Course at Fort Sam Houston as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. Upon completion of medical school Dr. Walker obtained an orthopaedic surgical residency, an honor bestowed upon the top medical students.

Dr. Walker was an orthopaedic surgical resident at the University of California San Francisco- Fresno where he obtained the Surgeon’s Award and completed several publications, to include a technical paper with NASA. Dr. Walker also created a pre-operative arthroplasty camp for patients that has continued to be a staple at UCSF-Fresno. Upon completion of residency Dr. Walker underwent an additional year of sub-specialized training in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at Houston Methodist. As a fellow, Dr. Walker worked with professional athletes to include the Houston Texans (NFL), Astros (MLB), Dynamo (MLS), and Rockets (NBA). While in Houston Dr. Walker also had the pleasure of working with NASA and caring for members of the astronaut corps.

Shortly after completing his fellowship Dr. Walker returned to southern California treating Division I athletes at California Baptist University and the University of California Riverside. Dr. Walker was then deployed to the Middle East as a Major in the United States Army where he served as a Battalion Surgeon at Camp As Sayliyah. Upon his return from deployment Dr. Walker continued caring for Division I athletes from Midwestern University, while residing in North Texas.

Ultimately, Dr. Walker had an opportunity to work with one of the most prolific orthopaedic practices in the country, OrthoCarolina, and subsequently made the transition to North Carolina. Dr. Walker is now the Orthopaedic Division Chief of Atrium Health-Lincolnton.

Dr. Walker seeks out the cutting edge in orthopaedic treatment and technology and has clinical interests in arthroscopic surgical intervention, biologics, and arthroplasty. Dr. Walker is a member of several professional organizations: American Arthroscopy Association of North America, Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, International Cartilage and Joint Preservation Society, International Society of Arthroscopy Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

As a husband of nearly 20 years and father of 7 children (1 girl and 6 boys) he places a high on value on family. Dr. Walker has several outside interests and is an Activity/Recreation-Enthusiast who enjoys mountaineering, SCUBA diving, surfing, skiing, and skydiving.

Dr. Walker seeks to obtain the most out of life and is passionate about partnering with his patients so that they may obtain the most out of theirs.
